Arlington VA Is a Great City For Young Professionals, Families and DC Commuters

Thanks to a booming job market, its military history and the ease of access it offers to Washington DC, Arlington VA is one of the most popular cities in the United States for young professionals, families and DC commuters. The County has a 350-bed, not-for-profit hospital, Virginia Hospital Center; and a Department of Public Health that provides immunizations; family planning; dental; tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS drug assistance; women, infants and children (WIC); teens; and refugee services.

A strong business environment and the proximity to Washington, DC have made Arlington a top choice for corporate headquarters. The county is home to a significant number of Fortune 500 companies, including AES, AvalonBay Communities, Arlington Asset Investment, CACI, ESI International Corporation, FBR Capital Markets and Interstate Hotels and Resorts.

Throughout the year, Arlington’s parks and recreation facilities host a variety of events, from outdoor movies in Barcroft Park to a symphony performance at the Kennedy Center. In addition, the city’s thriving theatre and arts district brings in Broadway-style productions, as well as contemporary art exhibitions.

Visitors can explore the story of the African American experience in Arlington at the newly reopened Black Heritage Museum. The museum features galleries and exhibits that celebrate the strength of the local community. The museum’s collection includes black-and-white photographs, clothing and artifacts. It also tells the story of the lunch counter sit-ins and Freedman’s Village, a settlement for former enslaved persons that started as a refuge camp and eventually blossomed into a thriving community.
