This is a great place to raise a family, with a wide variety of shopping, restaurants and schools. It is a little on the crowded side, and it can get pretty crazy in the summer, but with a little patience, this is a great place to live!

Downtown is a very walkable area with many shops and restaurants. There is also a great mall, Manassas Mall.

The city is served by several major highways, including Interstates 66 and 29. It is also home to the busiest airport in the state, Manassas Regional Airport.

There are also several universities in the area, including George Mason University, American Public University System and Northern Virginia Community College. These universities have a number of branches located in the Manassas area, which are known as their Manassas Campuses.

One of the most well-known sites in the city is the Manassas National Battlefield, which preserves the sites of two Civil War engagements. The park also has a museum, and offers interpretive tours of the battlefield.

The town of Manassas was established in 1873, and the town government was born at that time to meet the needs of the growing village. Among the priorities in these early years were building and maintaining unpaved roads, protecting from fires, keeping shade trees, regulating saloons, and making sure that livestock did not roam the streets.

Another major focus of the city was education, and it quickly became a center for black schooling, with the Manassas Village Colored School and the Ruffner School opening in 1870. Other schools, such as the Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth, also opened in the town during this period.

During the late nineteenth century, railroad service was important to the town, and it continued to grow. The city’s first municipal airport was established in 1918, and passenger and freight rail connections to other towns remained.

These railways served as the first major transportation links for both the Union and Confederate armies in the Civil War. The railroads were later owned by Norfolk Southern, and they remain important to the city’s economy.

GIS

The city’s Enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) group is part of the Finance Department and works on a variety of projects, including traditional maps, online mapping, location analysis, NextGen 911 support, data maintenance and more. It creates and distributes GIS-related technology solutions to City departments and field crews.

There are many museums in the city, including the Manassas Museum, Hylton Performing Arts Center and the Ben Lomond Historic Site. These museums have exhibits about the Civil War and local history.

Restaurants and bars in the city are also numerous. The city’s restaurants serve a wide variety of food, from Asian cuisine to Mexican dishes to Italian fare.

The city also features a variety of parks, and its citizens enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, fishing and other outdoor activities. These activities are available to all ages and interests, from young children to seniors.
